Really fed up with the way the PC brigade impose their petty restrictions on our humour and culture.

One of the greatest things about Britain is our ability to laugh at ourselves as much as at others so why are these PC Nazis allowed to dictate to us?

I am totally sick of a few brain dead, bigoted, bureaucratic idiots dictating how we should think and act in spite of our history, patriotism and individual thinking. They do not have the right to change facts to suit their twisted minds or to tell me not to say what I want to because it might offend someone. That is for the someone who may, and in most cases it is a very big 'may', to tell me. If I want to fly my national flag it is not for some PC twit to tell me I can't, in my country, because it might offend someone.  John Bohnet

It never ceases to amaze me how those who continually preach the doctrine of 'tolerance' are often the most intolerant people you will ever meet. They are vindictively intolerant of anyone who does not share their agenda and seem to have no problem in causing offence, even though they intolerantly forbid anyone else from doing so. All they are trying to do is socially engineer the pre-revolutionary breakdown of society that they so desperately crave. They will then substitute freedom and traditional British Christian values with a state controlled tyranny where any form of tolerance will be well and truly a thing of the past. We must never be fooled into thinking that political correctness is just the harmless aim of well meaning bureaucrats. We must not underestimate them. They are clever, determined, patient and now very powerful. All that's required for their success is for us to sit and do nothing. Name Supplied

As an ex police officer, I am disgusted at Lothian and Borders Police and other police forces engaging in pathetic political correctness. The Sunday papers stating that the police have announced that they will put more resources and effort into investigating complaints from Muslims than other complainers is utterly unbelievable. They also advertise stating that they particularly welcome applicants to join the police from the ethnic and gay etc groups!!! Surely it is the 'best person for the job' that should be securing jobs with the police and other employment agencies. No wonder this country is in such a terrible state. I am also against the European Human Rights legislation destroying our national safety with regard to criminals, criminal records and disclosure. We should always protect the innocent, not the criminal. Name and Address Supplied

I am getting really sick of PC. What it does is gives society a wrong message that when your "feelings" are hurt, just cry and things will go your way.  For example, I am Mexican and I was never offended by Speedy Gonzales. As a Mexican, my ancestors were the Aztecs and I was not offended by how Monty Montezuma (the Aztec mascot) was depicted by San Diego State University. Of course, never mind that the Diversity Fascists were making a big deal over a guy that never existed. Daniel Vega

Still cannot fathom out how a tiny minority are allowed the loudest and most damaging voice..!!!! I'm TOTALLY anti-PC so all the very best to this site.  Virtually everyday now we hear stories of some idiot (whose views are in the small minority) spouting to the rest of us that...`We can't say this or can't do that..` Why don't we ALL just go about our business as per normal and let THEM get flustered? I WILL say `blackboard`. I WILL say `Man In The Street` and I WILL hoist my St. George Cross flag up outside my house on St. George`s day. John Farr

By far the best written and most thought-provoking book I have ever written is Nineteen Eighty Four by George Orwell. When I first read it in the mid-70s I had little idea how prophetic it would turn out to be. But now, as new examples of 'doublethink' get added daily to our vocabulary (e.g. 'positive discrimination') I realise it is well past time to stop laughing at PC. While most of us were too busy chuckling, we allowed a few good intentions to morph and mushroom into the acceptable face of racism and sexism. Hardly funny! So whenever people rebuke me for politically incorrect comments, I accept the compliment proudly - because the fightback can wait no longer - and a commitment to common sense, free speech and genuine equality should always be proudly treasured. I can't believe PC is even still around! I have many friends of different races and backgrounds! None of them feel as though they are unfairly treated! but I can tell you who does.....the British public! Its almost as if the government has taken this so far they are no in fact discriminating against white British people! The only animosity I hear of regarding race is because people here feel pushed out by other races who never asked for this special treatment in the first place! I think it needs to stop soon because its causing loads more problems than it solves.

I strongly believe that the treatment of Ghurka soldiers that have served this Country in battle is an absolute disgrace, particularly when set against the liberal treatment of illegal immigrants.

We have allowed a situation to develop where people who have put their lives on the line for the Country have historically been treated less favourably than people who have done nothing but use this country as a base to either work illegally or commit crime.

Even after we uncover such activity we are then unable to deport them due to Human Rights legislation and/or a total absence of political will due to politically correct attitudes that prevail amongst many of the liberal elite that allegedly run this Country.

I appreciate that the law has changed to allow more recent serving soldiers to settle in the UK but this does not do anything to help those that served over many decades and who now live in conditions worse than most criminals jailed in this country.

I am an Englishman and proud of both England's and Great Britain's achievements as a nation. We have never been perfect but we have always striven to better ourselves as a country and our reputation is typically pretty good (except maybe for football hooligans), however since political correctness crept up on us (laughable issues at first) and taken a foothold (nowadays it's getting serious) I feel that I am discriminated against (both racially and sexually) all in the name of political correctness.  I feel I have to perpetually think very carefully before I speak so as not to offend anyone. If I was looking for a job in the public sector I know that if I am up against someone who looks different to me or is female I probably don't stand a chance even if I am the better suited candidate with more experience or qualifications. That's silent, unrecognised, accepted and legalised discrimination. Could it be any worse?

We are a nation built on tradition. It defines us. Why should we give it all up? I don't want to give up any of our traditions and don't see why they would be deemed offensive to others. And if they are then they should just live with it. But I suspect virtually nobody does find them offensive or at least didn't until some do-gooder suggested they might be. I don't have an issue with other cultures celebrating theirs but this oppression is making me feel like an alien in my own country.

It's good to see well respected people like the Arch Bishop of York and Sir Trevor MacDonald airing their views against this ridiculous tide of stupidity. Like these two gentlemen, many people have come over to the UK and made it their home and no doubt are proud to call it their home. They deserve a medal for being so brave.

We should all be allowed to have the freedom to celebrate our cultural individualism. We would never expect other religions to give up open celebrations of their festivals so why do some "do-gooders" expect us to do it with ours. I am not personally religious but I feel Christmas should be Christmas. And there is nothing wrong with words like "blackboard", "Manhole", "Chairman" etc.

As an Englishman I am definitely going to enjoy a few pints of good real ale on St. George's day and I certainly hope there will be people of different colours and cultures joining me!

We are Britain, let's be "great" again. Down with PC, up with freedom of speech :-)

I discovered PC during my studies in the UK. At first I laughed at it. It reminded me of our own PC from iron curtain times. That time to be PC meant to be the Party Correct. We could say or write whatever we wanted as long as it expressed views of the Communist party. What is going on in the UK is sad and scary at the same time. I hope it never comes to Slovakia. If the children of today are not allowed to take part in sports day due to all this politically correct nonsense then that will mean in the future there will be no Olympics as there will be no one to take part.

I also hate the way the pc people have changed black board to chalk board and white board to marker board and also the nursery rhyme baa baa black sheep - it was then changed to baa baa white sheep and now it is baa baa rainbow sheep! It is a sheep! It is a nursery rhyme! It is not racist! At the end of the day it is a word and a colour. Why cant it just stay that way?!?

When in school teachers should be able to put a plaster on a kid and not have to phone the parents for an 'emergency' so they can come down the school and put the plaster on for the teacher.

Also if a parent or nan or friend of family wants to take a pic of the son/daughter etc for an award they should be able to without being told its not pc anymore.

I am so infuriated by all this nonsense. PC is ridiculous and not necessary. Maybe they should put their time to something more constructive.

I agree wholeheartedly with the aims of the website: At last, people with common sense are beginning to speak out against the PC drivel that politicians, government departments and local councils are constantly foisting upon us - without our consent and against our will. Anyone who disagrees with their poisonous agenda (for whatever reason) is immediately met with the left screeching "Islamophobe!","Racist!","Homophobe!" etc. They do this calculatingly and cynically in order to close down opposition. A crafty tactic - I think you will agree.  I think there is a very clear danger that banning particular words/Xmas parties/Union Jack flying etc for fear of upsetting minorities can and will lead to broad resentment of the minorities in question. Which is a shame, because its invariably NOT the minorities who are imposing these divisive and idiotic guidelines upon us.  Most people reach adulthood with an attitude of not wanting to offend others. We want to get on with life and be happy. It is in the nature of a social creature to want to fit in with their peers. We mostly arrive at this philosophy as we are growing up and learning to be adults and fit into society. If we want something we say 'Please', if we get something we say 'Thank you'. We get these things from parents, grandparents and teachers. This way of doing things has worked perfectly well since the beginning of civilisation.   Tony Kenny

I'm just glad to hear someone actually speaking out against this nonsense. I have honestly yet to meet anyone who actually agrees with most these crazy rules that the PC brigade come up with. Which makes me wonder why if 95% of the population are against this PC madness, why then do have abide by the wishes of a bunch of faceless people who meet in dark rooms and call themselves a 'Think Tank'. I have absolutely no desire to offend anyone, as all people groups deserve to be treated with respect. However I would love to meet the person who first made the complaint that they were offended by the word 'blackboard'. I would however suggest that this person does not in fact exist, except in the imagination of a faceless nameless member of a 'think tank' Richard Smith

From a Nation who welcomed visitors and migrants who diversified our community; we have been driven to prejudice. Even the most liberal amongst us are being pushed to this view. It is NOT the fault of the 'alien', it is the 'recycled yoghurt knitters' who have created the 'positive discrimination' society. Second rate people are offered jobs because if the white, 10th generation Brit who was undoubtedly better qualified and experienced got the job, the employer could be sued and possibly put out of business because of 'discrimination'. Make a new set of laws built around COMMON SENSE! The ancient and original laws were based on morals and common sense! Also, when in Rome, DO AS THE ROMANS DO!!!  Also, we British are well known for our sense of humour.  When you analyse it, MUCH of our humour is most definitely NOT PC yet far from being found offensive, it is frequently those who are the 'butt' of the joke who tell the best!  eg the best Scouse jokes come from Liverpool and the best Irish jokes come from Ireland etc.  We seem to be being TAUGHT to take offence so the 'skill' of delivering a sensitive joke withOUT being offensive is being lost from the British identity.

Two news stories from the last couple of weeks lead me to research CAPC and sign the petition. I was outraged to hear about the hair salon that is currently being fined for not employing a girl who refused to remove her headscarf (islamic head wear) whilst working as a hair dresser. Why should this be treated differently to an employer asking you to wear appropriate shoes for a job? Some jobs are simply unsuitable for some people. A tattooed and pierced man who refused to remove his piercings and cover his tattoos would not make a suitable P.E teacher or a school receptionist in the same way that you wouldn't trust somebody with the styling of your hair who doesn't like to show her own in public. Insane.

The second news story which caught my attention was the one about police apologising to the muslim community in Dundee for launching a very successful advertising campaign for their new non-emergency telephone number which featured a puppy in a police man's hat. Dogs may be considered unclean in islamic countries, this is not an islamic country, dogs are a feature of British life. Certain individuals may disagree with my choice to show my hair, something which I shall not apologise for in Britain - if i did however, visit an Islamic country, I would respect their beliefs and way of life and adhere to it. Respect ours and stop asking for apologies (and the British should stop acting like scared pussies and offering them) for things that are clearly normal in the average British man's way of life. People move to Britain for a reason - be thankful for the benefits and stop searching for problems - this is how ghettos and separation are caused.

I have signed this petition because I am tired of being treated as a second class citizen in my own country. I may be wrong but I am not entirely certain that our grandfathers fought to preserve our freedoms and liberties only for a cretinous MP within a joke of a government to tell me that because I am a white male I can be legally discriminated against in the workplace. I am a upstanding citizen and a loyal subject of this country. I want to work hard and pay my taxes and look after my family. What an excellent site . A few months ago I was rereading The Screwtape Letters by CS Lewis and in "Screwtape Proposes a Toast" was struck at how accurately Lewis described the outcome of policies which our successive governments have, since then, implemented . I think CS Lewis would have supported our views. His was a voice of warning back when Britain was still relatively sane.  We have had two children go through the University system and they soon learnt that to get top marks (or even pass) they had to give answers which reflected the university's worldview - they both graduated with 1sts. They found it hard as they had been home educated and so taught to think for themselves. Even our son's outdoor education degree course was full of feminist junk !!!  My husband works for a Danish company and travels for them and says that other European nations consider the UK to be a joke the way we are slavishly following the PC and Health and Safety agenda. What is it with this country? I received a news review from the US and it quoted a PC incident that happened over here and the commentator said that he was saddened to see the UK going the same way as the US and had thought we had more sense . This site is a breath of fresh air. I have been utterly dismayed by a society that purportedly champions the freedom of speech - as long as said speech conforms to the PC way of thinking.  I have heard of words such as 'manned' changed to 'staffed' for fear of sexual discrimination; 'blackboard' changed to 'chalkboard' for fear of racism (yet, 'whiteboard' is still deemed acceptable). As you know, the list is endless.  If PC goes unchecked, we are in danger of undoing decades and even centuries of progress of mankind (or should that be 'humankind'), the countless numbers of people who have sacrificed their lives throughout history for the freedom of speech that is being all but destroyed today. I read in the paper today that students were to be discouraged from throwing their hats in the air after graduation ceremonies.
My son graduated from John Moores university two years ago and we had a wonderful ceremony in Liverpool Cathedral. The highlight for me and I am sure many other parents was when all those young people who had worked so hard for three years threw their hats in the air in sheer jubilation. I'm proud to be British and many of my candidates simply ticked "Other" stating they would rather be "Other" than merely grouped into "White European".  And why weren't there other boxes for "Black Non European", "Black European" or "Black Other"? I'm a gay man, and I would think it pointless, hypocritical, and bizarre to ban heterosexual couples from going to their prom for example.  There are already laws against the incitement of violence. Beyond that what do we need? The freedom of speech is not just the freedom of the speaker, BUT THE FREEDOM OF THE LISTENER.  Everyone may talk about PC being there to protect people against being "offended" which is so vague as to be pathologically stupid. Prevention of an actual crime is one thing, but prevention of free speech on the basis that it might offend someone is just dumb. People offend me all the time, I deal with it. And I differentiate between those who are just offensive and those who mean me real physical harm. Now the region of emotional abuse is a separate issue and a very real thing. Threatening behaviour which places the individual in fear of his/her physical security, is wrong. Nativity plays are not. Imagine if a large English population took up residence in Tokyo - would we demand the removal of all Japanese new year festivities at the local school because it offends us? I don't think so. There's a real distinction to be made he between intention to threaten/cause psychological distress or incite violence, and to simply wish to continue cultural traditions. Minorities should just be allowed to choose whether or not to participate in the mainstream, and should be provided a space in which they can practice their own things. It is not political correctness which changes things for the better, it's people who stand up and tell the truth. Political correctness identifies people by their estrangement from one another, and creates sectarian sentiment. It's beyond stupid, it's banality at its most destructive.

Comedian Lenny Henry recently said that television is still dominated by white faces and that little has changed since he joined the industry 30 years ago. BBC Executive Board member Samir Shah reinforced Lenny's call for affirmative action, saying "Some years ago the BBC had about 300 diversity initiatives but it's the outcome that matters. We now need to put in place some serious enforcements if we are not to have another speech like Lenny's in 10 years."  In politics, the deputy leader of the Labour Party, Harriet Harman, is considering the possibility of all-black shortlists to increase the number of ethnic minority MPs at Westminster.

These above statements really annoy me as there is no such thing as positive discrimination as any discrimination is wrong!

Political correctness is killing Britain. It is a system of denying truth and controlling the population by fear. New Labour have ruthlessly pursued a policy of reverse Apartheid. They aim to totally destroy British identity by making us feel ashamed of our past in the hope we will look to them for moral guidance. The attempted mind control and social engineering since 1997 is akin to Germany in the 1930's. The country needs a strong advocate of common sense to halt the tide of political correctness. Last Saturday night I was in a pub in Greenwich and was delighted when a group of Carol Singers arrived. Contrary to what the PC brigade would have you believe, these singers did not outrage anybody. Some people listened and showed their appreciation, others ignored the seasonal singing.

I'm 16, and so admittedly do have very little knowledge of political correctness, and the issues it raises, but I'd just like to say that I agree with your views.  I always thought that being told you can't say "black sheep" because it might offend black people was incredibly stupid. Doesn't simply saying that highlight the fact that they are different and therefore ostracise them? I find it shockingly and frustratingly stupid that people do not think about these kind of things. If I'm 16 and have caught onto it, why haven't they?!! I do worry - these are the people that run our country.  I never realised how far it stretched as well. A friend mentioned that the teachers at her younger sister's playgroup were not allowed to teach the children the nursery song "The Farmer Wants A Wife", in case the farmer was gay and wanted a husband.  At that age, children will not understand or recognise any political issues - they merely enjoy the song. Forbidding the song only encourages ignorance of the choices people make. If children grow up knowing nothing about racism, homophobia, sexism, etc. they will only reject it even more when they encounter it when they grow up, because it is different. Name Supplied

Motorcyclists have never been a politically correct lot in my opinion judging by the content of the (excellent) letters pages in the motorcycle mags. How soon will it be before some politically correct moron complains about headlines on the front cover of motorcycle mags such as "Best Jap 600's" (offensive to Japanese? I don't think so) or "Harley's New Fat Boy on test" (offensive to obese people?). And as for Jeremy Clarkson getting pilloried for referring to a car as "a bit ginger beer", well, where does it end? The man on the street has started to ask questions, about political correctness and now the natives are restless.

Because if we carry on down this idiotic line, it won't belong before we are all doing time.

No matter what you do, no matter what you say its going to offend someone in some or other way.

So tell us Mr Brown to avoid all confusion have we got to take P.C to its logical conclusion?

Liberals are destroying us all. I say this as a former working class socialist voter. They are destroying our culture, our history, our future, they are destroying everything...The class of 60, the anarchists, ban the bombers, pacifists, hippies, etc, have never matured from their 6th form student idealism, but nevertheless, today, after outmanouvering the rest of society, they have become our leaders.  They seek, at every level of society, to put forward their warped idealism and wishful thinking, as serious philosophies and logic.  Not believing in any gods, picking and choosing what part of Darwin they agree with, they are the 'new' masters of evolution and the universe. Any mild objection about the logic, morality, or sustainability of their 'brave new world' bring forth the (discussion ending) cries of Racist, Fascist, reactionary...PC is just a gentle term for a brainwashed zealot's crazy ideas on the shaping of society and humanity towards equality, despite all logic that points to the reverse.  Unless all the liberals with leadership rolls are replaced with people with a brain, sense of reality, and a love for their own people, culture and nation, then I think - sorry to say, we've had it... So, a thinktank (has just published a report that recommends Christmas be downgraded in the name of Mutliculturalism and Diversity. Obviously. I am actually struggling to find the words to express my views on this matter, and even if I could, I don’t think they would be suitable for this site. So I’ll leave it!

Another aspect of the report apparently bleats on about the fact that the English countryside is dominated by white faces and is woefully underrepresented by ethnic minorities. Excuse me, but where do these morons get off? As far as I am aware, the countryside is there to be visited and appreciated by anyone who wishes to do so. I am also fairly certain that the black and Asian communities are aware of its existence. I am a frequent visitor to the countryside myself and, on my last visit, I didn’t notice too many signs stipulating ‘White Heterosexuals Only. Positively no admittance to Minority Groups'.

I am a white male, I feel as though I am now a minority.  By promoting differences between groups, they promote discrimination.  I find it offensive now. I am discriminated against, just because I am not an official minority, whom are promoted artificially, this, in effect, does down people like me. Also, do people really believe this pandering to minorites would happen in another country? Ban a Hindu or Islamic festival as it was offensive to Christians in another country? Get real, they would send the Christians packing at best.  I find PC offensive, I find my culture and traditions being abolished offensive. People in the war died for this country, and way of life.  Some are now trying to alter that but they will not succeed. John Lee

One of the most pathetic of examples of PC is the golly. This much-loved toy and it is much loved, has been around for over a hundred years, when Florence Upton first wrote her books using the golliwogg, (it was spelt like that then,) as a hero, yes a HERO. He became so popular that toys were made of him, perfume bottles with golly heads were sold and all in all, he was an incredibly popular figure.  What amuses me more than anything else is that as soon as a story hits the papers saying that someone has been arrested or complained about for daring to put this toy in their shop windows, they sell all their gollies and local bear shops find their golly sales rise by 200%!! There is only one reason for political correctness, (what a stupid expression that is!) and that is to stir up racial hatred. It is usually a white person who complains about them, and they have no idea at all of where the golly originates from. A survey was done in Birmingham after a local man in Staffordshire was complained about for putting gollies in his shop window and not one person, black or white, could see anything wrong with them at all.  I suggest that the powers that be grow up and stop trying to stir up trouble. Stop this stupidity now!!

Isn't it ironic if we do not agree with these morons in power, we are called such convenient names such as nazi, fascist or racist. Yet they are the ones going around telling people what to think and say, just like the fascists did. They also come up with such wonderful ideologies as to what racism is, for example rewriting the nursery rhyme baa baa black sheep to baa baa multicoloured sheep - things no normal person would deem as racist.  Perhaps it is these people who have challenging racial issues and who need to address them and leave the rest of us alone.

Unless a person is placed into a category or group that is recognized, supported, and protected by government, then you are a person who is afraid to speak. PC irritates me. It is one of the many things this country can do without. It seems because we had the Empire spanning most of the world we owe the world an apology and therefore try our hardest to speak in a new 'double-speak' to avoid touching on subjects which may offend others. It needs to be driven from our society with the utmost haste. People should learn to speak their minds and others should learn not to take offence. I have read other people's views on political correctness and agree with each and every one of the ones I have read so far, though I think it will take me a while to read the rest of what has been written! My opinion of so-called political correctness is that it is nothing more than a form of fascism and hypocrisy where people are limited on everything that they do and say by the PC brigade. I firmly believe that political correctness is a direct attack on our liberties and freedom to speak and act in a fair society.  It undermines our confidence and instils a mindset that allows the law to prosecute almost anybody for anything. Being a straight white male who is working full time and paying CSA support for two children, I am one of the minority people in Britain who actually don't belong to a PC protected group. I actively denounce stupid legislation and practice within law that allows common sense to be repressed as an evil entity that must be stamped out.  Phil Gornall

The gift of free speech is quickly becoming eroded by a government that preaches about it's fight for Liberalism. This government must consider it's electorate to be very ignorant. It has introduced legislation and bans that they tell us protects this Liberalism. Of course this is the age-old paradox that to protect Liberalism you introduce all of this legislation, but by doing so you make society less liberal due to the excesses of all these new laws. Lord Hailsham had a phrase for this technique. It's called "democratic dictatorship". It really is totalitarianism by the back door. Douglas Bill

I feel that political correctness is just stupidly complicating speech and works to destroy freedom of thought.  This is due to many of the actions that are being taken by governmental, business and European bodies.  Christmas is Christmas for example, not some stupid multi-religious rubbish, the same as Passover is Jewish and Fathers' Day is a commercial thing started to boost revenues for the card companies.  The modification of speech reminds me of the Orwellian classic "1984" with it's newspeak.  It is very wrong, as is the creation of a seemingly totalitarian society as we are beginning to experience here in the United Kingdom.  It has been tried and tested in the USSR, the GDR and in Nazi Germany.  It fails in the end.

I'm astounded to see such incredibly pathetic, short sighted Politically Correct statements of pure stupidness. I live on the Isle of Man and it's about 5 years or so behind the times (if you can call them that) and to hear of such nonsense is truly amazing.
I'm not racist and I've black, brown, red, and yellow friends to name but a few, but if anyone tells me that my trousers or bin bags aren't black, then I would consider THEM RACIST, as my words are meant as a word and not a damaging insult.  Let's face it, I'm supposed to be white but I'm more of a pinky colour and my friends aren't black, as they're not a distinct black as like stated before, my trousers.  As for the English (I'm Manx) being told that they can't put up their St. George flags in case it upsets someone of another culture is so racist, it's unbelievable! As far as I'm concerned, the traditions and identity of a nation are extremely important and if tourists or immigrants object, then as far as I'm concerned, they shouldn't come here. I don't object to other nations customs and traditions when I go on holiday, so why the difference here?

Four years ago, when my wife and I lived in England, I used to fly a small St George's Cross flag on the aerial of my car.  A racist, English, skin-head ?  No - a patriotic Scotsman who felt incensed that anyone should tell any Englishman that he must not fly a St George's Cross in England.  We never had anyone complain - perhaps because they noticed that my wife - who agreed wholeheartedly with my views and was just as ready to defend this right - was very obviously Chinese.  Here in Malaysia the Malaysian national flag is flown everywhere - it was even painted on a wall measuring half a mile to celebrate Merdeka. Political Correctness does not exist here, thankfully.  We both  look forward to the overthrow of the Politically Correct Commissars and a return to normality, when we will visit the British Isles once more. Lest We Forget!

Have we forgotten their ultimate sacrifice?

Of these men and women who died in their millions?

Brave and true, without question,

Proud to be British, not ashamed to be Christian.

So many years have past,

It seems our memory doesn't last.

Forgetting these courageous people to our shame,

Why can't we remember their names?

How short is our memory,

That we have forgotten them already.

Died in their millions fighting for our freedom,

Believing in the free democratic ideology.

What does it take to wake up this country?

To rise once again from its complacency.
How much more do we take, before we decide to fight,

For our beliefs, our traditions and democracy?

Voices From the Past

What have you done to my Country?
That I gave my life fighting for?
Did you cherish the freedom I left you?
Or did you lose it forever more?

I died protecting these precious Isles,
From that great dictator of old,
So that HE would never rule over us,
Nor remove our reserves of gold.

You lay your wreaths at the Cenotaph,
Wear the poppy upon your lapel,
Yet those that made the supreme sacrifice
Are not here their tales to tell.

Stand up straight as you stand at the Cenotaph,
As the brave march past, heads bent low,
T’was not they that betrayed our memory,
Who it was in your heart, you well know.

For those in whom WE placed our trust,
Such treachery by them has been shown,
On the people once more the burden will fall,
Till the new battle for freedom, be won.

PCness is awful.  The 'eggshell society' it has created is woeful.  People stumble through speech in case the 'wrong' thing is thought, let alone said, self-censoring as they go.  A healthy society is a straightforward one. The legal system needs to reflect this too.  No more awards for 'injured feelings'.  The lack of perspective endemic in modern Britain is nigh on pathetic.  People need to travel more, be exposed to more real life struggles - against hunger, disease, nature itself - instead of naval gazing!  I used to play in a football team that was pretty much 50-50 split black guys and white guys.  At the end of each indoor training session, we'd play 5 vs 5.  The easiest way to 'dress' the teams: shirts off, play in skins, black vs white.  Simple.  No bones.  No injured feelings.  No PC nonsense.  The sheer practicality and openness of it won the day and only served to strengthened the team.  No 'PC eggshells' there.  Glad to have found your campaign.

Political correctness is not a product of the left it seems to be a product of the middle class. Here in University in Leeds I am surrounded by pretentious stuck up white liberals who would hail you as a fascist for calling a spade a spade. In class the other day I brought in a copy of the Daily mail and was asked by a stuck up rich member of the class if I was racist. I replied no and was told that I shouldn't read the Daily Mail as it was racist and didn't value multicultural Britain. My reaction is something which I cannot put here cause it would need censoring 100 percent. I have always hated "Political Correctness" or more correctly
Linguistic Fascism and always go out of my way to rubbish it. However, one thing that really oils social relationships is good manners and so I will usually offer to get coffee for friends and colleagues. But only I can get away with making coffee and destroying the PC culture at the same time.  So my standard question when asking who wants coffee is "Who wants non-white and who wants non-black?" and it works particularly well and sets people at ease in our very mixed group. So, two-fingers several timers over to the PC fascists!!!  Oh yes, and the last seminar, I deliberately used that highly contentious description, BLACKBOARD as that is what it's called, although it would be more correct to call it a liberally-chalk-dusted-once-black-but-now-rather-grey-board.

In the first half of the last century many people fought and died to maintain our freedom.  In the foreword in 1962 to a book about the 2nd World War, Air Vice Marshall Donald Bennett wrote, “Freedom and justice are not vague or empty ideals. They are real and practical - but we have lost a great deal of freedom, and justice is impoverished and fitful. Have the people who saved us in war, lost in fact in peace? We who live on have a duty to see that the petty tyrants who have arisen in our community are denounced and removed.”

I think Political Correctness is a plague on society. People nowadays go to such great length to avoid offending others.  Yesterday I was at the beach enjoying the water, the sand, and the sun. In the old days children used to run around naked everywhere and it was no problem. I thought I'd let my two children do the same. Since it was so hot I allowed them to take off their clothes and they went about building a sand castle.  All of a sudden, a mother nearby approached me and told me to clothe my children because she was offended by their nakedness. I told her they're just children, but she kept harassing me. Believe it or not, she then called the police and they demanded that I clothe the children because it may offend others. What ever happened to freedom of expression? I suppose I have a nostalgia for the old days when we didn't have the sensationalist news media constantly scaring people about child molestors. Things used to be simple back then but now everyone is offended by everything.

Glad to see someone's sticking up for common sense. "Political Correctness" threatens the fairness our society is based on. It is smug middle class liberals scoring points off each other by "positive" racism while accusing others who wish to debate an issue of being racist. It is out of control colonial guilt. It elevates minority rights above the majority, above national security, above everything. It is hypocritical, paradoxical, widespread and dangerous.

Last year at college in Manchester, rumours went around that we would not be allowed to wear England football shirts to college during the world Cup. How can it be seen as racist when we are after all...in England. Everyone I spoke to said they were going to go and buy an England shirt if they didn't have one simply to show disgust at this blatant discrimination. I am not racist at all but all this PC nonsense doesn't make things better it simply brings things to light that people never thought about or were never bothered about. No muslims I spoke to would be offended if I wore a cross necklace for example, whereas I am offended if I am told I cant wear one, it only makes things worse. One of the worst examples is the Blackboard now being called a Chalk board, come on it is black and it is a board. Great site by the way

I worked for a while as a labourer on a building site in West Yorkshire. At the start of my time working there I had to attend a health and safety talk and run down of the site rules. So far so good they are dangerous places to work. Towards the end of the talk the issue of workmen not being allowed to remove their tops or to shout or whistle things at female passers by was addressed. Health and safety joining the force of political correctness in mutual smug satisfaction. I smiled and nodded and signed the paperwork confirming I would comply and then went to work.  After about 90 minutes I was called to the site office to discuss my behaviour.  I informed the management that I had broken no rules and they finally had to admit defeat and reluctantly I was allowed back to work.  Once working I continued to work wearing just my bra (on top) and heckle male passers by to the delight of many and the frustration of the other workers.  Being female I feel I struck a blow for their ridiculous attempts at political correctness and would beg any builder or building company out there to remember that being whistled at is a compliment that can make someone's day not an offence to half the population.

Having read through your pages the PC situation is much worse that I realised. Of course nearly all the examples are from government controlled bodies (or companies relying on government work) where employees dare not go against the dictates of their superiors or they will be disciplined, and could destroy their promotion prospects (and pensions). So it is sometimes unfair to blame the individual for being stupid, because they have to comply with instructions. If people were more confident that they could not be charged with breaking the law then I'm sure there would be many more people who would be more assertive and challenge these idiots head on. The reason PC has got such a hold is because people have been afraid to respond with politically incorrect language because they fear they are breaking the law. Yet we don't hear of court cases involving people using racist language like "blackboard" and "black coffee", etc, because it would be laughed out of court.  What could a council do if I set up a voluntary Playgroup where parents brought their children to play with other children under the supervision of all their own parents? Because of ignorance people retreat when threatened by a council rather than challenge them.  I know I have used some politically incorrect expressions here for which I am not going to apologise, so I guess I will have to attend a diversity course given by a well paid, government trained parrot. If I am ever challenged about referring to Christmas, black something, brainstorming etc then my answer will be "How dare you tell me what I can say or not say!

Political Correctness is simply Cultural Marxism, an ideology developed first in 1914 to undermine traditional western values in part through Critical Theory.  It leads to (and has led to, I believe) a totalitarian state.  PC also replaces laws of libel, slander and common decency with restrictions on freedom of thought, choice and speech.  We have called the movement of cultural Marxism "Political Correctness" and laughed it off, but it is a genuine threat.  We have let PC into the UK, it is getting stronger and it will in the end destroy, as it seeks to destroy, everything that we have ever defined as our freedom and our culture.

I am British but currently living and working in the States. I want to share a story about how you can be more equal than someone else. Recently I watched a story unfold in Detroit concerning a youth who had shot a man in the head outside a night club. The man survived but was in a coma. The judge convicted the youth to the maximum sentence that could be imposed - 12 years. The usual sentence for such a crime was 6 years. Why did the youth get the maximum sentence - because he had committed a hate crime. The man he shot was gay. The judge decided he had shot the man because he was gay. Although I agree with harsh sentences for criminals, this infuriated me. Why was a shooting a gay man worse than shooting anyone else. Go and tell the family whose daughter was shot in the street, or the family whose heterosexual son was shot and is still in a coma why their attackers got lighter sentences. I am sure that the people who randomly shot these other two victims for no apparent reason didn’t like them or love them - therefore they must have committed a hate crime. Or what about the husband who shoots his estranged wife, I am sure he must have hated her to shoot her? But these are not hate crimes, so whatever the motive, if a crime is committed against a minority or a special interest group then it is somehow deemed much worse. In my view all these crimes are terrible, for the sake of the victims and victims families they should all be dealt with equally harshly.

How do those who push political correctness think making certain groups stand out is going to help us all to integrate?  If they really believe that people of all colours, races, creeds and religions are the same they need to stop making certain groups stand out. Political correctness is actually having the opposite effect on our country to that intended by suggesting there is a huge difference between people when actually we are all equal regardless of our backgrounds. So called political correctness needs to be stopped before it tears our country apart.

A prime example of how we have become numb to this nonsense is the rotating, triangular New Scotland Yard sign. I am increasingly concerned at the progressive erosion of freedom in this country. While my children may be experiencing a better standard of living than in the past they seem to be far less free to do and to be what they want. In the home of democracy we seem to be progressively suffering from dictatorship by the minority. So many worthy causes are hijacked by over zealous individuals who seem to possess no sense of proportion or even reason. If we are not careful, we risk creating a society where nobody is able to laugh for fear of causing offence.

Some time ago a local TV station showed a short item on the West Somerset Railway (a very successful "heritage" steam railway). As they interviewed the driver of the locomotive the caption "Fred Bloggs - Driver" was shown on the screen. When they interviewed the fireman, however, the caption read "Jim Smith - Firefighter".  This kind of PC (Pernicious Claptrap) is being used to brainwash children from nursery school onwards.  All in all, I'm beginning to think that Orwell was an optimist - but we can and must fight back.

I loved Tom and Jerry as a kid...in fact I am now an adult and still adore that show.  They don't make 'em like that anymore!  Erm, no really...they don't.  No more smoking for Tom you see.  One person has complained about the fact that Tom smoked in an episode whilst eyeing up a feminine feline beauty.  This person, this ONE complaint has led to them ensuring that this will never happen again as it has been roundly agreed that it is very bad for children to be exposed to this sort of thing.  As opposed to Tom and Jerry trying to kill one another?  Presumably that person was so offended he/she will not watch the show unless the smoking is removed?  Well I now won't watch it unless it's re-included.  Hpmh!

I sent an email to the other placement students saying "I hope you all have a great Christmas and a fantastic new year".   I was then told to not use the word Christmas as it might offend other religions. (The same religions however that are more than happy to take the days off around this "festive holiday").  I am Christian, I live in a Christian Country that has been Christian for as long as anyone here can remember. Our National Anthem is God Save the Queen - NOT land of hope and glory. I would not go to a Muslim country such as Turkey (as I regularly do) and request that they do not fly the Turkish Flag, Have the Imam announce prayers from the parapets. NOTE:  Epilepsy Action have issued a statement saying, "We are often asked about the word 'brainstorming' and whether its use is acceptable. The centre of Bristol is currently undergoing a major redevelopment to create a huge state of the art shopping Mall.  The proposed name 'Merchants Quarters' was soon dropped after a local 'community leader' expressed horror at this 'celebration of Bristol's slave trading history' (What??!!). Can anyone guess the tenuous PC connection? Well historically some Bristol Merchants utilised slave workers in their West Indies plantations so naturally the term 'Merchant' is now the latest victim of the PC witch hunt. Unfortunately Bristol City Council is too weak willed to follow this capitulation to its logical conclusion: the prohibition of all commercial transactions in case they offend anyone by reminding them of more oppressive times! Maybe you might like to call in on 'Equal Opportunities Transaction Empowerment Executives Quarters' next time your in Bristol? (No probably not!)

I have been anti PC for a good 10 years, having spotted it early in its evolving state that positive discrimination was as harmful as racism.  It is fantastic that a site like this exists because it about time something was done to readdress the balance in society.  PC really hit the big time with the alternative comedians of the 80's.  Although it would be possible to kill PC by using the system against it, it would probably be more effective to create an alternative alternative comedy set which would highlight the stupidity of PC and make all who follow the PC rules the subject of ridicule!  Best of luck with the campaign!

I currently live in the USA and am married to an American. All human beings are capable of independent thought, and more importantly, are unique. Political correctness has no place in civilised society for this very reason. It is a cancer; destroying the principles of democracy, such as freedom of speech. Subsequently, our children are becoming weak and non-competitive. The majority have to forgo their freedoms for the sake of a pithy minority. Political correctness will eventually destroy, as it seeks to destroy, everything that we have ever defined as our freedom and our culture.

The current level of political correctness incites more racism in the form of a backlash, than it diffuses. Though I myself may not react negatively towards any minority group as a result of the impact of political correctness, I know many who have done. The reaction of the general public is regrettable and I dare say all but impossible to prevent; therefore surely it is the absurd legislation etc which should change. We have a society to be proud of, alas, political correctness prevents this from being the case.

I am totally frustrated by the PC brigade and their stupid ideas.  They are ruining our way of life and destroying our heritage.  I feel particularly sorry for today's children who are prevented from enjoying all the games and pursuits that my generation took for granted.  As for all their ideas about offending ethnic minorities, it's about time they realised these people are not offended by our way of life - or our religion.  Any right minded people respect the beliefs of others, whoever they may be.  The same goes for our flag - it is nonsense to suggest it might upset anyone.  For example, we have two shops in the village owned by Asians and they both display large St George's flags in their windows. I am uncomfortable about the term 'Racism'.
This word is bandied about as if we all agree upon its meaning. I for one don't.  What defines race, and where does that definition end? Is it skin colour? Country of origin? First language? Lifestyle? The list is endless.  It doesn't seem so long ago that a certain dictator was satisfied to described the ideal German race as fair-haired and blue-eyed.  Without a clear definition of the word we could find ourselves the subject of a prosecution under the race relations act for a perceived insult against almost anyone.

The use of the word black is the most ludicrous of all the P.C. nonsense. When you say "blackboard" you are describing a board that is black, nothing more. However, when you refer to an afro-caribbean person as black you are being inaccurate as they are, in fact, various shades of brown.  I recently worked with a "black" man from South Africa who frequently used the word "coloured" to describe himself. He saw no problem with the word, apparently this is common in South Africa. Try it here and they will string you up by your thumbs.  Controlling the way you talk, and what you say, is the first step to controlling what you think.  People are terrified to say what they think for fear of causing offence. Orwell was not wrong when he wrote 1984 - he just set it 20 years early.

I have charted the rise of PC through university & workplace.  From middle class guilt, PC has mutated into a self serving, power wielding tyranny. PC now infects all institutions & private life, creating division & suspicion. Comments express the confusion & alarm of ordinary people to each example, but these are often seen in isolation. What people need to understand are the underlying reasons for its expansion, the conditions that promote & reward its growth. There is a correlation of conditions repeating
across institutions, though their functions differ they follow the same piper.

On joining the Army back in 84, we had to go through squillions of forms. On each form was the question about nationality.  There were 2 boxes. For me the options were British English as opposed to Welsh or Scottish British.  I am English and very proud to be so. I live in the British Isles.  This has all changed now so as not to upset people who might not like to be what they were born.

Also, my sister was stopped from singing 'baa baa black sheep' and 'sing a song of sixpence' because they had racist connotations.  If black birds are not black, then what colour are they?  Hey kids look, its a not-so-bright bird! In my view the whole structure of P.C. is based on the notion of protecting others from being made to feel uncomfortable for whatever reason and whether they require that protection or not.  Exponents of P.C. can therefore feel smug about themselves, not requiring such protection for themselves.  Making assumptions on other people's behalf is patronising in the extreme and I for one am offended by P.C. on behalf of all the minority groups who they claim to speak for.  Let those busybodies mind their own business and let offended people speak for themselves if they have a grievance. We will no doubt find them perfectly tolerant and understanding.

Finally someone is standing up against these PC morons. Australia is being ruined by this plague of stupidity we call political correctness.  Our culture is going and so to is our common sense. Democracy and political correctness cannot coexist for they cancel each other out.  Democracy stands for the free thought and speech of every one. Political correctness on the other hand stands for speech and thought codes. To deny our individuality is to deny our humanity.

The fight against political correctness must dispense with the idea that PC supporters are merely naive do-gooders.  PC is not a joke, nor is the main danger the threat to free speech, important though this is.  Also, it is not, as many of its opponents imply, mere stupidity. It is, in fact, a very clever technique which enables the members of the political/legal class to exert power over, and enrich themselves at the cost of, a majority of the population by identifying subsets of that population and setting these groups against the majority to the benefit of that same political/legal class.  It is accomplishing this with a combination of psychological/political blackmail and legal measures including acts like the Human Rights Act.

The stupidest piece of PC I heard was in the story of a shop keeper who was arrested for having golliwogs for sale in his shop window. The police arrested him during his sunday lunch to say he was breaking the law.  He now sells golliwogs by the thousand. People come from all over after reading the case to buy golliwogs from him - sales have never been better. This is what PC is doing - making people determined that it wont work. PC at its worst - it is madness.

Political correctness is scoring a huge own goal. It is the most effective tool ever for creating boundaries and divisions in society and is peopled by brainwashed morons with no sense of humour and no grip whatsoever on popular public opinion. It is also hysterical and ludicrous and is now becoming tired and dated. In fact, it's reached its sell-by date already and all the CAPC have to do now is to give its perpetrators a huge spade so they can finish the hole they've been digging themselves for years.

I am a translator by profession, and through a friend of friend I received an offer of work which of course I accepted. I was shocked when it turned out to be from a health trust, asking me to translate a questionnaire to establish to what extent a patient or "client" or whatever they are called these days was able to live by himself in sheltered accommodation, whether they knew how to use money, take their medication, do their own shopping etc. Presumably the fact that they needed a translation to understand a basic level of English was some clue as to their ability, although for all I know they spoke good English and it was just a loony managerial decision to order a translation. However, the most ridiculous thing about it was that the health trust did not wait for me to bill them for the work, it paid up immediately, DOUBLE the amount I would have charged, and even apologised that it couldn't be more.

On the appointment of a new Disability Czar:

It would be totally wrong for someone with mild learning disability to speak and act on behalf of those with profound learning difficulties.

I hope, therefore, that this new position will be available to people with no verbal communication, the deafblind and the totally illiterate.

In all fairness, it MUST be advertised in all learning difficulty journals, in braille and on audio cassette, at least in English and Welsh.

The candidates and the appointee must be provided with a facilitator and, if necessary, an interpreter and communication board. The person may well also need a full time carer, a qualified nurse and a physiotherapist. He or she will also need a chauffeur as it will be necessary to visit and study the full range of learning difficulty persons across the UK.

I would have thought that the person who dreamt this up was eminently suitable for the post!

I work for the NHS so don't feel I can openly sign your petition but I strongly believe that political correctness actually causes more racism.  It is because of my concern for people from other races that I am writing this. I feel that ordinary law abiding, caring, open-minded citizens feel threatened when they are told that they are unable to celebrate their own culture in the way they want to.  Many people I have talked to have expressed these views but do not feel safe to express them fearing they will be tarnished as racist.  It smacks of living in a fascist state.  I used to read about Communist Russia and China and how they were suppressed from free speech and now people are talking in hushed tones only to people they feel "safe" with - and this is the UK in the 21st Century.  I for one am very grateful for this site where I can express my fears - but alas, anonymously!

It seems that we are forbidden to use the word "black" in any context these days, as decreed by the politically correct brigade which mostly occupies overpaid non-jobs in local government offices. This embargo on the use of the word "black" applies particularly to describing people.

Excuse me - WHY? It seems on par with Basil Fawlty's "Don't mention the war", because it implies that there is something WRONG with being black, that black people are to be pitied and must not have attention drawn to the colour of their skin.  There is no more wrong with a person being black and being described as black than me being white and being described as white.

I think one of the worst cases is the banning of traditional sports day as there will be losers.

Isn't this the whole point? I was a very shy child who could not swim at 12. I changed school and had a teacher who was very hard. She would have been locked up these days. Under her tuition I was competing competitively 2 years later. My point is, I was a loser, but with strong encouragement became a winner, which did my self confidence the world of good. For those that are not gifted in one area, I'm sure they are strong in other areas - they just need pushing to realise this. Life is competitive - jobs, partners, social standing etc. Children should get used to losing in order to a. deal with it, and b.to turn it around and want to be successful.

I have a 15 year old brother with 'challenging behaviour' - i.e. bad behaviour. He is great when he knows he can't muck someone about, but his school work and ultimately his future is being ruined because of this pussy footing around him and total lack of discipline at school. He behaves as he wishes, and also disrupts other pupils as he knows he can get away with it.

I'd like to tell you a good story, not at all PC, in fact quite the opposite. I was travelling from Portsmouth to my home by train. A long 3 hours with two changes. The final change was at Ascot. Only one stop to my station. Surely nothing can go wrong? WRONG!! Ascot has more than one track, so I got on one side of the train, but when it gets to my station, you get off the other side. Unbeknown to me, the door nearest where I was sitting wasn't working on the off side. Went to get out and couldn't. Ran (literally) to the other end of the carriage and.................missed the time line on the button. Had to go to the next station. Now for the good bit. A good Samaritan, who saw my predicament at my station, offered me a lift back. He told me a bit about his day and said that he doubted if we would ever meet again, but his name was Chris. I responded with "I'm Jan and I appreciate this very much. It just shows that chivalry isn't dead". I doubt if he would have heard of CAPC, but if he has and is reading this, I'd just like to thank him once again for his kindness and generosity. There are a few good people left in this world.

When I was a bus driver in Crawley, I was invariably late on my route because I was always helping people! If a mother was waiting with a child and a pushchair, I would leave my seat, get off the bus and help her with both. Of course, if any inspector had seen me doing this I would have been sacked on the spot for (a) unnecessary delay of the all mighty timetable and (b) risking prosecution and litigation for carrying a child on to the bus.

One day, I stopped at a bus stop that had a line of parked cars next to it. I had to stop in the middle of the road. It was pelting with rain, cold and dark. At the stop was an old woman of about 80 years, who was absolutely soaked. She had one of those "sholleys" in tow. In order for her to get on the bus she would have to traverse a flooded grass verge and squeeze between the parked cars. I got off the bus, lifted her "sholley" on to the bus, then lifted the woman herself and carried her bodily across the verge to the bus placing her gently on to the platform. I waited until she was settled in the seat and then drove on singing a Frank Sinatra song to her and all the other elderly passengers.

When I finished at the bus depot every passenger clapped me and said Id been a hero. The old lady said she was going to report my kindness to the bus company. I begged her not to because I would have been sacked immediately!

I am quite worried that children are dragged into being politically correct.  My younger brothers are intelligent and interesting children aged 10,14,16 and 18, but have a tendency to re-correct me and my parents on the way that we discuss things round the dinner table.  There are elements of this that remind me of 1984 and the thought police.  Children are very impressionable and when they are told that it is "bad" to differentiate between say black and white I see it as a very worrying situation.  They are not able to reason whether political correctness is a valid platform from which to argue and are therefore easily programmable.

Yet playschools and kindergartens now won't let teachers help kids change for PE or cuddle them in any way. We don’t need more women/ethnic/gay MPs, we need BETTER MPs.  I don’t care what gender/colour/creed they are and neither should anyone else. The Labour Party went to great (illegal) lengths to get more women MPs and they succeeded.  However I can’t see what use they have been to the Labour Party and they certainly haven’t done any good for the country.  I accept this view is political heresy in some quarters, but it needs to be acknowledged.

It is about time that people put aside all this nonsense. I agree that too many people are put into boxes and given special favours and the right people are being passed over time and time again.   This is not about colour ETC!!!!!!!. It is about common sense - we need to end all this social engineering.  So I say it's time to fight back and put common sense back in society.  People should not have the right to be upset with simple common sense issues. Hire the most qualified person you think would fill the position.  It should be meritocracy only.
