What
is Political Correctness?
Although the definition of political
correctness appears in various articles throughout this website, and also
the examples of it really do speak for themselves, we are adding the
definition here too for ease of reference.
Actually, political correctness is quite difficult to define. Most
dictionary definitions of the word are in themselves politically correct
and so not a lot of use!
Basically we've come up with the following definition which seems to cover
political correctness in all its forms:

Political correctness is where people change their words or behaviour
to try to avoid causing offence but usually do not consult the people they
are trying not to offend before taking this action which often leads to
offence and upset in itself.
It leads people to sometimes say or do things which they
know to be untrue or unnecessary, or not say or do things which they know to be true or necessary, as they are too afraid or
embarrassed to be honest or commonsensical.

Political correctness tries to make up for past perceived inequalities by
replacing meritocracy and equality of opportunity with equality of outcome
through discrimination against people with the same physical qualities as
those perceived to have been beneficiaries of other systems in the
past.

Political correctness encourages offence to be taken where none is
intended, encourages the re-writing and re-thinking of history along with
the abandonment of pride in country, is a serious threat to free speech
and, despite being portrayed to be in the name of tolerance, is completely
intolerant of anyone who does not act in a politically correct fashion.

Where
does Political Correctness come from?
Well, it is understood that
the concept was thought up by a group of intellectuals
who came together to form the “Frankfurt School” in 1923.
They developed “Cultural Marxism” and
“Critical Theory”. The
institute was modelled on the Marx-Engels Institute in Moscow.
In 1933 the members of the Frankfurt School
moved to the United States and eventually spread out onto the campuses of American
Colleges.
These intellectual Marxists included Herbert Marcuse who coined the
phrase, “Make Love Not War” during the anti-Vietnam demonstrations.
To read more about this we suggest you have a look at Wikipedia under
"Frankfurt School" or "Cultural Marxism" - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frankfurt_school

What's
wrong with Political Correctness?
Basically
it’s a form of censorship and tries to bully people into
conforming with a certain point of view which usually defies common sense.
It is only actually pushed
by a few people and it is very difficult to find many people who
agree with it.
It
means that those spouting political correctness assume that they have the right
to give opinions for people they perceive to be from
"minorities" without usually first consulting the people they
purport to speak for. e.g. people say that you should not use the term
"Brainstorming" as it could be offensive to people with
epilepsy. Epilepsy Action, however,
say, "We are often asked
about the word 'brainstorming' and whether its use is acceptable. If the word is being used to
describe a meeting where participants are suggesting ideas, then its use
is not offensive to people with epilepsy." See also
the stories and views people have sent us and the Not In My Name Campaign
on this website for further examples of people using political correctness
where it was not asked for, not needed and certainly not wanted.
It
undermines personal responsibility and freedom.
Some people who go along
with it only do so as they think they have to – they do not necessarily
agree.
It
is more divisive than harmonious.
You
can’t categorise whole groups of people, treat them differently based on
that grouping and then expect them to integrate happily after that.
It
is stifling debate on some absolutely key
issues affecting this country and this is why we really do have to do
something now before it is too late.

Hasn't
Political Correctness helped this country to change into a more tolerant
place?
The simple answer is no.
The reasons are:
Nothing
good is likely to come from something which was started to destroy our
country as we know it and which is so controlling and dictating.
Political
correctness is intolerant of any view which is not in line with its
view. We should be more
tolerant than this. e.g. an old man who goes into a hospital and tells the
receptionist that he is a cripple should not be told that he cannot call
himself that - as actually happened - as this is totally rude and
intolerant.
Political
correctness creates divisions where there should not be any and
divides people up into stereotypical boxes all the time so it has actually
made us more race conscious and more sex conscious. Children, who do
not naturally see colour as being an issue, are being taught from a very
young age that it is an issue - this can hardly be described as progress.
Political
correctness says that it is OK to be sexist and racist and treat
people differently because of their race or sex - particularly in the
context of employment and job opportunities - when common sense says that
everyone should be treated fairly regardless of race or sex.
Positive discrimination is just discrimination with the word positive
tagged in front of it - and there is absolutely nothing positive at all
about legalising discrimination of this kind when most of us want to see
an end to it!
Political
correctness does not mean good manners.
Political correctness is no replacement for politeness and
consideration. In fact most
people who push political correctness are not very polite or good mannered
at all.
Political
correctness limits free speech which is unhealthy and very
dangerous.
Countries
and attitudes evolve through experiences and education and we do not
believe that the British are an intolerant nasty bunch of people who have
been saved by political correctness.
In fact the reality is quite the opposite. A normally tolerant and
kind nation is being pushed in the opposite direction by the political
correctness that has infected our public services, our institutions and
our way of life.

"The
entire point and purpose of the politically correct campaign is to
demoralise, to render uncertain, to produce bewilderment in place of
pride, to sap confidence and to wipe out all thoughts of independence and
self-sufficiency."
